FAILURE, A PATH TO SUCCESS

Have you ever read a success story or been moved by someone who seems to be living your ideal life and possessing everything you could want? Then you find yourself wondering why your life can’t be the same? The best of us experience this! However, until you plant your sapling, care for it, and see it develop into a lovely and gratifying person, admiring a fully grown tree yielding quality fruits is not going to be of much use. Up until you keep working hard and perfect it, every step toward something great involves failure and trial. It is impossible to live without failing at something unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all, in which case you have failed by default (J.K. Rowling).

The proverb goes, “If you’ve never failed, you’ve never lived”. One of the things of life that most people are probably most terrified of is failure. However, everyone has failed and will continue to fall. We occasionally forget that despite all successful people having failed, they persisted despite their setbacks. They repeatedly got up and gave it another shot. We frequently assume that successful people simply got lucky. They simply had the appropriate contacts or it just fell into their laps. The most essential changes to our lives result from facing our anxieties and failing. Babe Ruth puts it clearly that you should never let the fear of striking out stop you from playing the game.

Failure can be compared to fixed deposits when it is understood more broadly. Every time you fail, you’re depositing a unique, first-hand experience that will one day pay off handsomely for you. Each setback highlights a slip-up you could have prevented, a practise session you needed, and a skill that needs honing. Better to state that failure is a necessary step toward success. The truth is that you don’t need success to live a fulfilling life, even though many people strive for it. You will never become competent if you only succeed without failing. Failure should be our teacher, not our undertaker. Failure is a delay, not defeat. It is a temporary detour, not a dead end. Failure is something we can avoid only by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing (Denis Waitley).

Failure that alters your life shatters relationships, or deviates from your career trajectory is considered life-shaking. It can be challenging to get back up, shake off the grit, and keep going, but doing so is all it takes to advance to the next goal. Failure can take many different forms, such as failing a test or losing a lucrative scholarship. Although the gain varies, the wavelength of the agony never changes. How you decide to respond to failure will determine how quickly you achieve success. Failure becomes the most important life lesson, which you can only learn if you push yourself to work hard to achieve your objective. A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new (Albert Einstein).

Failure is a red carpet for your ‘Oscar’ victory. Have you heard of someone winning the ‘Oscar’ without being on the red carpet? Nope, we guess! Failure mentally prepares you to confront the upcoming obstacles and for the next possible fall. Failure forces you to work in a realm you didn’t know existed and changes you for the better. Failure develops your strength, resilience, empathy, compassion, and kindness. It also aids you in changing your interactions with others. Before you reach your peak of achievement, failure in every form brings out the actual human values at all their best. Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm (Winston Churchill).

Most potent and well-known people in the world have a failure and struggle story that has shaped them into the brilliant diamonds they are today. From a janitor to Hollywood’s best comedy artist, Jim Carrey experienced continuous failures due to his upbringing in poverty. It took Carrey 11 years to eventually follow his ambition of becoming an actor. Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of social media, is currently one of the richest and most successful people, yet his initial network, Facemash, was a massive failure that had a negative outcome for him. Additionally, Mark was sued, and the case was subsequently resolved for a staggering 1.2 million Facebook shares. Beyoncé began performing when she was younger with a group named “Destiny’s Child”. When the group disbanded, she was devastated, but she recovered to become the legendary Queen Bey. Who controls the world? We do, after all! There are no shortcuts to any place worth going (Beverly Stills).

So, don’t be afraid of failing because it’s a step on the path to success. Remember this, the next time you fail:

Failure brings about remarkable change.

Failure can be the beginning of two things: either a path to despair or a platform for development. It is totally up to the person who ‘failed’ to decide what develops from the initial failure. When things don’t go according to plan, it is simple to get depressed and lose drive. Instead, make a mental adjustment, start a new, necessary course, or reset your perspective using failure as a technique. It takes failure to change things up. If not, we would contentedly go along without making any quantum leaps. The quickest road to success is to possess an attitude toward failure of ‘no fear’ (Ralph Heath, author of Celebrating Failure: The Power of Taking Risks, Making Mistakes and Thinking Big).

Failure makes you resilient.

Failure has a similar impact to a calloused wound. It is the protective covering we develop after a few bumpy trips around the block. We are easily hurt when we are left vulnerable and unprotected. Anyone who experiences failure can develop a thick skin and approach the major leagues fearlessly. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think (A.A. Milne).

Your self-esteem is maintained by failure.

In today’s work and school environment, it might be difficult to stay sincere and grounded. It is simple to become overconfident when business is booming, deals are closing without a hitch and you are getting straight A’s in all your courses. In light of this, people who are constantly successful might even turn to dishonesty if it prevents them from losing what they have. Before they realize it, they become slaves to success and would do anything—even things they never would have thought of doing—to maintain their position at the top. Friendships and relationships are ruined. From there, everything goes downward, perhaps except for the bank account. We are humbled by failure when we most need to be. It keeps us in check and helps us remember where we’ve come from. According to John Wooden, don’t let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.

Failure produces ‘aha’ moments.

When something is eventually discovered, recognized, or comprehended in a way that has never been done before, it is failure that causes the ‘aha’ moment. Why? Similar to this is working out a challenging arithmetic issue, in that regard. At first, it’s difficult to comprehend, but after a brief break, it all makes sense. Just out of nowhere, the solution appears. Nevertheless, it is not truly originating from ‘nowhere’. The restricting thoughts of failure and dread expand; causing a buildup in our minds that causes this condition. When things become evident and fresh information is obtained, the expansion causes explosive energy that releases us from constriction and puts us in a highly energizing, creative condition. The expert in anything was once a beginner (Helen Hayes).
